Instead of the real thing, the completed layer of laminate consists of a simple picture of whichever material it is to simulate (wood or tile). The picture is printed onto paper that is impregnated with melamine resin and covered by a powerful protective transparent top layer. Under extreme temperature and pressure this finish layer is applied to HDF board. For the most part  texture is stamped on for a more realistic look. Individual boards lock into each other like legos for easy and fast floating installation.

The end result is a product that is very cost effective. The non porous floor and tight joints are easy to up-keep. Simply use a vacuum and from time to time clean with a damp mop. Microfiber cloths usually are the best. Make sure not to use any chemicals which contain waxes or polishes. These will build up layers that will trap dust and dirt. There is a wide variety of colors to choose from.
